Totally Unrelated News...

Hey Friends!

So today's post is going to be part of the "randomness" listed in the blurb above. This has nothing to do with anything really--I was just excited about it and wanted to share.

Sooooo...I recently came across an image of a fruit baby on pintrest. It was adorable, and my brother's baby shower was coming up so I knew I had to recreate this thing. Now I'm not usually the arts and crafty type (apart from writing) but lately I've been feeling like a budding Martha Stewart. That sounds nice and all, but it's not a good thing. Half my projects turn to crap. This one may be an exception though. I'm pretty proud. It turned out cute, right?------>

For those of you wondering, the head was the hardest part. I think in the pintrest version, they use a whole cantaloupe. But I ended up slicing it in half because I found that worked better for me.

The Twelfth Keeper Release!

Hi Friends!

The Twelfth Keeper has been released! And a few days early, because I just did NOT want to wait any longer. I hope you all enjoy the book! And as a sorta celabratory surprise--I'm posting a teaser below...

Available on Amazon HERE!
(Print version available soon)

Teaser from The Twelfth Keeper:

Kennedy dazedly made her way through the narrow hallway. She was so distracted and wrapped up in her own head she didn’t notice that someone was coming from the opposite direction.
Phoenix was a few feet ahead. Black eyes met hers as they closed in on each other. Her pace slowed involuntarily, invisible shackles tied to her feet. It was like this every time he was near; her whole body shut down in his presence. What was it about him that was so…alluring?

She stopped, waiting for Phoenix to make his way around her. Except he didn’t. He stopped directly in front of her.

Kennedy politely stepped aside, giving him plenty of room to go around. Head lowered, she waited with her back against the wall. He would disappear soon and she would be able to breathe again.
His feet moved. But his legs only turned, repositioning. She looked up to see he was right there facing her.

Again.

Only a breath away.

Kennedy couldn’t bring herself to look away. The sharp lines of his face, softened by full, perfectly sculpted lips, so uniquely handsome. The way his straight nose suggested superiority, yet was offset by hints of dimples at the corners of his mouth. If he were to smile, it would be devastating.
Wait. Why was he just standing there—staring?

His eyes roamed over her as if he had every right to look. Granted, she was doing the same thing, but only because he wasn’t moving. And the way he was looking at her—Kennedy felt like she was being devoured.

Why wasn’t he leaving?

She wanted to ask him, but the words were lodged in her throat. She supposed she could walk away, squeeze through the small space between them and hightail it down the hall.

But she didn’t move. Couldn’t move was more like it.

A wavy tendril of hair had fallen across her forehead. Phoenix reached for the strand, pulling his hand back at first, like he was afraid to touch her. A moment passed, and he reached for it again, tucking it behind her ear.

Kennedy held her breath.

His warm fingertips lingered there, on the side of her face, slowly brushing over her cheek. Roaming down the curve of her neck.

Her heart hammered against her chest. Pounding to get out. Breathing was difficult. Very difficult.
Being this close to Phoenix terrified her. His touch sent tingles down her spine, paralyzing her with fear. Yet, at the same time...it thrilled her.

She closed her eyes, leaning her head back against the wall. Trying to will the air back into her lungs.
She should walk away.

Nothing about this situation was making any sense. Normal people didn’t fawn over complete strangers in empty hallways. Phoenix Jorgensen wasn’t exactly a normal person, but still.
Even with her eyes closed Kennedy felt him coming closer. His warm breath next to her ear, sending a wave of shivers through her body. He hovered, right beside her face, their lips were almost touching.

If he would come just a tiny bit closer, maybe it could be as intoxicating as her dream.
Kennedy swayed forward, then abruptly opened her eyes.

Nothing but air.

Happy Holidays and Cover Reveal!

Hey Friends!

Hope your holidays are going great. Since it's the season, I've got a surprise for you. I've been working on a new series due out in January 2013 (specific date TBA) and I'm very excited to display the cover for book one, The Twelfth Keeper. Hope you love the cover as much as I do!

Cover Design by the awesome Sybille Sterk

When sixteen-year-old Kennedy Mitchell is proclaimed the world’s last keeper, she thinks it’s a cruel joke. Come on- her? Impossible. She’s no warrior. She isn’t wise beyond her years, or more importantly, capable of keeping Earth safe.

Except...no one will listen. And since all evidence says otherwise, the job is hers whether she likes it or not.

During the highly demanding training regime that follows, Kennedy struggles to fit in with Earth’s renowned protectors. Especially Phoenix Jorgensen, who openly despises her. Problem is, he may be the only one she can trust. The keepers have big secrets surrounding them. Secrets Kennedy isn’t comfortable knowing, much less being apart of. With Phoenix’s help, she’ll have to find a way out.

Either that, or die trying.

Things that Inspire Me

Hola Amigos!

So the past few days I've had trouble writing. I don't know if it's lack of motivation or  laziness or if I simply don't know how to put the next part of my story into words. (Side note: To make things worse, my dog keeps sitting on my laptop, demanding my attention. And when I don't give it to him, he growls. He's kind of a jerk.)

So anyway, I decided to do this post for a little bit of inspiration. And you remember how I love lists, right? So I'll call this list "Five Things that Inspire Me." Hope you enjoy, and maybe receive some inspiration, too :)

Five Things that Inspire Me:

The Counte of Monte Cristo (movie)

I adore this movie. It has everything the perfect story should: Adventure, Romance, Treasure...best of all Revenge. And it even boasts a happy ending. I'm big on happy endings. They don't always happen in life, and so it feels really good when they happen in movies.

The Ocean

If you've read my books, you'll know the ocean always plays a small part in them. Is there anything better than the sound of lulling waves crashing against the shore? Speaking of that, I don't get it when people wear headphones at the beach. I mean, I love music just as much as the next person (see number 3 on my list ) but who wants to tune out one of the most relaxing sounds on earth? Not me, that's for sure. Anyway, I think the ocean inspires me because it's this huge, vast mysterious thing. And when I look at it, I remember how small I am, and it teaches me a little humility.

Ne-yo

I love listening to music. Especially when I write. In fact, the basis of Wanderlove came from a song. I chose Ne-yo not only because of his music, but because of how talented a song writer he is. He's written songs I had no idea came from him- and sung by female artists. As a girl, it's crazy how much I can relate to some of his lyrics.

Disney Fairytales

I know, I know. Disney princes are the sole reason us girls grow up to resent the fact that real life men don't actually ride up on white horses to to save the girl. That being said, the disney fairytales do make for great stories. And let's be honest, Belle was the best princess by far. ;)

Aiports

Yep, I threw a weird one in there to make you scratch your head. And sigh...I really do love them. There is something about the energy, about going places and the excitement of that. If you look around at the drop off, you might find a couple kissing goodbye as if they'll never see each other again--- or you might see them reuniting as if they've been apart forever. Once I saw a golden retriever reunite with his owner and it was one of the best things ever! The dog ran sooo fast, and then jumped up into his owner's arms. And this was no small poochie. He had to be at least 50 pounds. And the best part was, the owner looked just as happy to see his dog. Anyway, airports always make me look around and look at people, wondering what their "story" might be.
